US Eliminated from U-17s

The summer of disappointment got worse for US Soccer today with a 2-1 Round of 16 loss to Germany today. The US controlled much of the play, but as is typical with American youth teams in major competitions, the finishing was poor and all the high energy play led to being susceptible at the back. It is a story we have have seen before most recently at the 2003 and 2005 U-20 World Cups where the US controlled play against opponents superior in technical skill but could not finish opportunities.

1 win 0 draws and 3 losses for a team with supposedly our best group of players ever after years of residency in Bradenton. Disappointment doesn't describe it. Disgraceful is more like it.

And of course England advanced so for probably the fiftieth straight FIFA event England goes further than the USA.

2002 World Cup, John? I think we we advanced to the same level.

And, of course, I am sure you are talking about FIFA tourneys that England actually qualifies for.

Though I do agree, the 1994 World Cup performance by England was GREAT! Why they didn't win it that year I will never know. Oh, I remember why, because Bulgaria had a better team than England that year.

And, as it looks for 2008, Israel has a better team than you do.

I know, I know, that isn't comparing the U.S. to England, but I am sure we could actually defeat Israel.

Still, England fans live in the past. ALL they ever talk about is 1966, 1966, 1966. GET OVER IT. No wonder England can never move beyond that, they just live that moment over and over in their heads. Kind of like the 5-1 win over Germany SIX YEARS AGO!!!!

While it is nice that the U.S. went so far in 2002, we don't keep looking back at that point. We say it was nice, but then we move on.

I guess that is why we are so excited about our U-20 team. If that is any indication of what our World Cup teams will look like in 2010 or 2014, the U.S. will be in good shape while England would fail to qualify.

Oh, and in regards to this tourney, we lost to Germany! You beat friggen Syria! Big deal!

Still, France advances :) Would you like to compare France against England in tourneys :)

John, what about the under 20 world Cup in 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007? Do those not count?
