US vs. China 06/02/07 Individual Ratings

Just watched the game; China looked awful

Howard: 5.5; couldn’t do anything about the goal; made a nice save from a free-kick, but I didn’t feel he set up the wall too well with Beasley on the end instead of a bigger player like Razov or Dempsey
Spector: 5; solid tackling; got burned once in the 1st half but was bailed out when the cross was over-hit; distribution was a little shaky; fouls too much
Bocanegra: 6; solid debut as captain; got beat badly in the area once; nearly snatched a goal a late
Onyewu: 6.5; better performance by Gooch; still lacks a little quickness but he did well in the air (as usual), distributed the ball much better, and got a goal off a set piece
Bornstein: 5.5; I still don’t think he is the automatic first choice left-back that some people think he is, but he played well overall aside from a nearly disastrous give-away early in the second-half; good distribution but was not really tested too much defensively (which is where I feel he needs improvement)
Beasley: 7; Beasley looked much closer to top form; nice run to draw the penalty and a great ball to put Dempsey in mid-way through the 2nd half
Feilhaber: 8.5; Man of the Match in my opinion; great goal, great service on Dempsey’s goal; read the game well, precise distribution, strong tackling, and some crafty dribbling out of pressure; did just about everything
Bradley: 7.5; great tackling and distribution; magnificent ball through to Beasley to draw the penalty
Kljestan: 6; great ball through to Feilhaber on second goal; overall played pretty solid in his debut
Razov: 5; did not create much
Dempsey: 6.5; missed two good chances in the 2nd half and got caught in a possession a few times, but overall played well; quality goal off the set piece; played a key role in the 2nd goal holding the ball and knocking it back to Kljestan for the ball through to Feilhaber

Keller: 5.5; not a very busy second half
Davies: 5.5; great strength and speed; looked more dangerous than Razov; showed some skill with a nice piece of dribbling just outside the Chinese area
Simek: N/A; did not see enough to evaluate his performance, but I really like Simek and I am not at all surprised that he’s drawing serious interest from Premiership clubs
Nguyen: N/A; tough to evaluate him on 10 minutes, but he looks great; nice run through the middle that ended with him being taken down and beautiful cross to Bocanegra in the waning minutes
Marsch: N/A
Hill: N/A

Let me know what you think...

Heath Pearce will start over Bornstein at left back when he is recalled to the national team.

We can score without Donovan! Hooray!

And we can play well without most of our regular starters.

It was great to see how well they played. I was only able to catch the last 20 minutes, but did see the highlights.

But of course, it was China. Hopefully this match, along with the matches with Trinidad, Guatemala and El Salvador will get us ready for July 28th.
