Keller close to deal with RSL

The Washington Post reports that Real Salt Lake are close to signing 37 year old Kasey Keller, the most capped Goalkeeper in US history to a three year contract. Keller who has played in Europe since 1994 has repeatedly stated he wanted to end his career stateside.

Oh great, how do I respond to this.....!

As the blog's resident RSL supporter, I don't know how to respond.

I think Keller is a decent keeper, but I don't know if that is exactly what RSL needs right now. Yes, they have allowed a lot of goals this season. But, on the other hand, so has Dallas. The difference between the first place FC Dallas and the last place RSL is the goals SCORED!

Giving up Cunningham was, I feel, the biggest mistake RSL made this season. Alecko Eskandarian isn't going to fill Cunningham's void.

But, on another point, I don't think that RSL should give Keller a three year contract. Yes, maybe a one year contract. But three!! It is almost unheard of in ANY sport to give a player that is past their prime over a one year contract. I think RSL will really regret their decision if they sign this guy to a three year contract.

Still, RSL needs to score goals. I think this is where Kreis needs to put the pressure on Adu to produce. Freddie has only scored one goal so far, and that was from a penalty. Yes, he has played decent in the few games I have seen, but the whole 'hype' about Adu was that he could put the ball in the back of the net. It is time for him to do that now.
