Only if you define "most major markets" as Detroit, Buffalo, Minnesota and maybe Boston. Hockey gets hosed nearly as badly as soccer otherwise.JoshChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15023366783001428489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28859744.post-85249707890702839752007-08-20T15:23:00.000-05:002007-08-20T15:23:00.000-05:00Anonymous, Baseball writers typically have little ...Anonymous, Baseball writers typically have little understanding or tolerance for other sports. So they resent its growing presence in American sports, and have no desire to appeal to the new immigrants and ex pats in this country. You don't have to knock Baseball to promote soccer. You don't have to knock Barry Bonds to promote David Beckham. As someone who really disliked Beckham as a player being a City supporter I thought too he was coming for the stardom and Hollywood. But the way he gutted out performances in the last two Galaxy games after being bashed in the media again speaks to the overcoming adversity you talked about.

The media just won't get it. You see to admit kids and adults are buying up Beckham Galaxy shirts would be to admit they have been wrong their entire careers about this game. It would also threaten their beloved Baseball. They call Football/Soccer boring? Are you kidding, Baseball games take something like five hours and have a million stoppages of play and commercials. IT IS THE MOST BORING SPORT WHICH REQUIRES THE LEAST AMOUNT OF ATHLETICISM OR GENIUNE SKILL AROUND. Soccer's combination athleticism, quick matches and the fact we play it directly opposing Baseball threatens them. Even though more sports writers cover the NBA, NASCAR and Golf you wouldn't know based on the emphasis in their papers and writings that all those sports routinely get much higher viewership than Baseball.City Louhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08820995902282343131noreply@blogger.com
