Heading to Europe...

Greetings fellow bloggers. In the coming weeks I will be visiting the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg for leisure and hope to bring you all some local flavor from the World Cup. I cant promise much more than that, but certainly hope to entertain you with stories of rowdy pubs and the orange army of fans I am sure to run into.

I was invited to contribute to this blog and hope to do so with flair. I have coached, refereed, and of course played soccer for more than 20 years. I understand the off-sides rule and can teach you. I have faced angry parents and piss-poor officials and can tell you all that SOCCER is still the best youth sport in America.

No doubt I will be rooting for the US on Saturday, and fully expect there to be some huge repercussion should the team not play to its "potential."

-Enjoy

Look forward to your reporting from the scene. I am here in England and we can sniff the cup but it will be a good study to get some other views.

I have been enjoying matches in different venues in San Francisco - great atmosphere everywhere. I've seen lots of national team colors of participating nations. Casual fans are taking interest and I've talked players, teams, and tactics with many interested listeners.

I was fortunate to be invited to watch the opening match with members of the German American Chamber of Commerce at a private party at Gordon Bierch Brewery. It is somewhat ironic that we got to drink better beer than the fans at the stadium in Germany!

I sat with a black woman and a man from India (I am a white male) at a party thrown by Germans (and German Americans). World Cup indeed!

What's happening in your part of the World?
